Hard to believe it has been yet another week; I ended up on a bit of a tangent looking at the online aspects of the game. It’s not multi-player or even co-op in the purest sense of the words, but there are some interesting mechanics forming around the use of cloud that fit the story of the game.

With initial testing now completed on my local servers I’ve taken the plunge and moved the authentication system up to AWS with a web-based version of the game on my webhost. It’s a bit like sending your kid off to school; literally watching your code leave the protection of your network as it makes its way into the big world of the internet…

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to get the online aspects into the mobile versions of the game due to security settings, at least on Android. But that’s something to look at again down the line.

In any case the cloud move should make for better performance at least- and a lot more scalable then what I can do from home! Back to the actual game though… soon.
