Another busy week of development and I seem to be inching ever closer to actually building a game; or at least a believable world with an immersive story.
Having just wrapped up Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat (an excellent read, by the way) I decided to build myself a screenwriter’s board for the overarching plot of the game.
Whilst the tactile “hands on” approach is always the most appealing for such things it doesn’t lend itself well to the increasingly mobile needs of the modern world.
To that end, I’ve pulled together an excel spreadsheet, incorporating not only Blake’s beats along with the emotional flow and conflict points of each scene as well as the equivalent stages of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.
The content of my live copy is falling into place pretty quickly, thankfully, so I’ll hopefully be in a position to move on to some character development soon…
